A month or so ago I was up at Brighton Resort with the Bluehouse Skis crew for the Bluehouse Rail Jam. It was cool to see all the skiers that came out to compete. Brighton hooked up the kind spot and a slew of sponsors including Tramdock.com kicked down prizes. The winner took home some MR’s.

My buddy Tim Cartwright loves skiing more than anyone I know. On any given day, 365 days a year I could phone him up with the suggestion of a ski trip, a destination, a line on a peak and he’d be game. He’d likely up the ante by suggesting an aspect to the adventure that I hadn’t thought of. I should know, it’s happened multiple times.

After a trip to Utah a few weeks back where Tim and I skied The Canyons and Snowbird, he returned to Seattle just in time for the heavens to open and cold temps to decend upon the PNW.

I’m stoked to see his most recent experience about skiing Crystal Mountain and Alpental was published on PowderMag.com. Nice job Tim!

I hadn’t realized how many videos I’ve been posting on here lately until I was about to post this video. Truth of the matter is I’m getting lazy creating my own content. Although this video is one that you may have seen before, I find it inspiring and worthy of a second round.

But stay tuned to the blog as I’ve got a post about overweight kids and another one about the film “Who Killed the Electric Car” coming up.

Perhaps the reason this piece by Steve Hartman of CBS News touched me so much was because ever since I can remember I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for the underdog, the kid that needed someone to believe in him.

I had a classmate in elementary school named Curtis Rowley who needed someone to believe in him. I guess I risked not “being cool” but looking back nearly 25 years I don’t believe I risked anything by my actions.

I often wonder what happened to Curtis after we moved away and if anyone else gave him a chance…or took a chance.

And so it was while watching this video I thought about what a fantastic coach Jim Johnson of Greece Athena High School in Rochester, New York is and more so what a great individual he must be. In a world that is in need of more people like him, coaches who will give every kid a shot at something, he put Jason McElway in for a few minutes of the last game of the season. And although Jason wasn’t “officially” on the team, it didn’t matter.

Ever had this question? I suppose if you’re a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, an electrician, etc that you don’t hear that question all that often. But being a marketer/blogger/social media guru/content editor I get that question all the time. Perhaps what I don’t do is tell the story well enough about what it is that I do DO.

This article on wikipedia.org basically sums up what it is that I do when I get around to doing work stuff. The coolest part is that I love doing it. To quote Jack Black – “My life is good“.

I’ve long contended that Deer Valley is a great place to ski and despite the nay sayers there are some cliffs, drops, steeps and plenty of untracked powder to be had amid the corduroy and the Bogner one piece suits. Dan from Bluehouse Skis is evidence that I’m not blowing smoke. I can’t tell if he’s skiing the new prototypes but either way he went big, very big.

I’m a fan of Google Apps. There’s something cool about uploading a spreadsheet, inviting a few people to have access to it and then working on it together without the tediousness of wondering if the copy you’ve just received and opened from the latest e-mail is really the most up to date. Not that I don’t enjoy the “track changes” feature on Word cause I do. Could you imagine having “track changes” on your life or a relationship? Makes your head spin doesn’t it? I’ll save that for another post.

One of the Google apps that I enjoy is the Google Calendar and in particular the feature of sharing it with others. It sure makes being on the same page much easier especially when the company you work for , in my case Base Camp Communications, operates in two different states (Wyoming and Utah).  It’s nice to know who’s doing what and when. Although it can be a little “big brother” I enjoy using this feature.

So when I sent an invite for Google Calendar to a co-worker in said out of state office this was his reply:

Do you have access to ‘Google Time Creator’? My problem is not discovering interesting things to do with my time, but having the time to do interesting things, of which I already know plenty!

… that may also be known as sleeping less.

Ok Google, I’m waiting. Please send me an alert when you’ve added the Time Creator app to my Google account. Until then, I’ll be losing sleep.

I was saddened at the passing of President Gordon B. Hinkley. I’ve read much from him and much about him in the past few days. This video from BYU is a nice tribute with some sound counsel that I would be wise to follow.

And this one is a nice example of how one man can change another man’s life.

Thank you President Hinckley for influencing mine for the better.
